Software specialist Nexenta has announced the launch of software-defined technology that helps businesses simplify storage management.

NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN allows businesses to create a hyper-converged storage approach that streamlines the provisioning and management of file services.

The NexentaConnect technology sits on top of a VMware Virtual SAN environment and dynamically matches systems requirements with the correct storage.

VMware Virtual SAN is the first policy-driven storage product that automates manual tasks in an attempt to deliver an efficient and cost-effective operational model.

"Software-defined hyper-converged solutions are raising to prominence as a very flexible, scalable, and extremely economical alternative to shared storage solutions for certain workloads," said Eric Burgener, research director at IDC.

Tarkan Maner, chairman and chief executive of Nexenta, said businesses can use the hyper-converged approach to change the scale of their storage environment without costly over-provisioning.

"It’s hardware-agnostic and it’s very simple, easy-to-use design increases operational efficiency, saving enterprises both time and money," he said.

Other features of NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN include domain integration, inline compression and advanced caching logic. The technology is available to buy immediately.
