BlackBerry shares have jumped over 7% following a raft of announcements from CEO John Chen, including a strategic partnership with Samsung and new mobility management features.
Announcing the firm’s updated BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Service), BES12, it was the Samsung partnership which really stood out at the launch event in San Francisco, with BlackBerry ready to provide end-to-end mobility management services to Samsung’s Android devices which run with the Korean firm’s KNOX platform.
"Today’s announcements demonstrate that BlackBerry is delivering on our promise to design and develop enterprise solutions that drive secure communications and collaboration for our customers," said John Sims, President of Global Enterprise Services at BlackBerry.
The Samsung partnership is a clear indicator for BlackBerry’s willingness and necessity to work cross-platform to make its mobility software products a success.
Sims said: "Our Enterprise Portfolio, with BES12 at its foundation, does so much more than just manage cross-platform devices. Amongst many other capabilities, the portfolio provides easy and safe access to corporate data, manages an array of employee IDs, and offers new ways to securely and conveniently collaborate with colleagues."
