US based iPhone maker Apple has acquired rights to use Harley Davidson’s ‘Lightning’ as it relates to ‘games and playthings’ within Europe.

Used as reference to describe its new device connector for iPhone 5, the term is permitted only for use in a limited number of Apple’s goods or services, while Harley-Davidson will still have rights to use the term, according to Trade Marks and Design Office of the European Union.

Harley-Davidson’s trademark covered all kinds of items that range between motorcycle electrical parts, helmets and turn signals to TV sets, computer game programmes and eye glasses.

In September, the US phone maker released its Lightning connector for its devices including the iPhone 5, new iPod Touch, and seventh-generation iPod Nano.

Powered by iOS 6, the new iPhone 5 is claimed to be 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S and it incorporates about 200 new features including the customised mapping programme and turn-by-turn navigation, Facebook and passbook organisation as well as voice-activated assistant Siri.
