Security specialist Alert Logic has launched a cloud-based approach that it hopes will cut the complexity associated to information and event management.

Cloud Defender uses a mixture of systems and services to protect organisations from cyber threats targeted at business critical infrastructure, whether the technology is deployed on-premise, in a public cloud or in a hybrid data centre.

Gray Hall, chief executive of Alert Logic, said firms have struggled for many years to balance the need to respond to security at the data centre level with the challenge of brining complex management technologies in-house.

"Cloud Defender provides advanced technology, real-time threat detection, and automated security analytics, all managed by a team of dedicated security experts, to companies of any size," he said.

Through a combination of specialist technologies and human expertise, the Alert Logic system provides businesses with insight into their IT environment and protection against attacks.

Alert Logic Cloud Defender provides critical detection and protection capabilities across four key areas: intrusion detection; vulnerability scanning; web application threat detection; and log and security event analysis.

The web-based approach also includes a series of active services that deliver big data analytics, security monitoring, threat intelligence research and content management.

Alert Logic believes Cloud Defender provides a clear licensing model and upgrade path, which help reduces the complexity to security and compliance.
