Coventry City Council has entrusted the IT support of Capita’s own revenue and benefits IT system to public sector specialist Civica which will also handle document management tools from Northgate Public Services.

The council said it chose Civica for the firm’s breadth of software knowledge and expertise in the challenges present in public sector IT.

Tim Savill, head of revenues and benefits at Coventry City Council, said: "We’re in the midst of making some challenging changes, so it was important for us to select the right transformation partner to help us.

"Civica’s breadth of knowledge and understanding of the issues facing local authorities makes them an important partner for automating and transforming critical council services such as revenues and benefits."

The agreement will also cover provisioning of off-site processing support from Civica’s OnDemand service, and is the latest service to be procured by a council involved in the South Worcestershire Partnership.

Following its formation in October 2013, the partnership currently provides support to 15 local authorities together with the Department for Education and Skills, and Civica staff will work from the partnership’s IT centre in Pershore.

Civica works with several councils to deliver software as well as business process outsourcing.

It signed a similar revenue and benefits process deal with Gloucester City Council in 2011.
