The new feature will allow twitter users to email tweets to anyone, including those who do not have a twitter account.

Twitterers have been able to email a tweet before, but never directly from Twitter.

Tweets can be emailed from the Twitter steam or by clicking the "more" icon next to the reply and retweet buttons. Additional comments can also be added when sending the tweet in an email.

"Sometimes you want to share with another group, like your college roommates or your parents or a friend who isn’t yet on Twitter," said Twitter engineer, Stefan Filip. "That’s why we’re introducing the ability to email a tweet directly from twitter.com."

The email sharing feature will be rolling out to all users within the next few weeks.

The announcement of the new feature comes after Twitter made a security blunder by sending out millions of emails to users saying their account had been compromised and prompted them to change their passwords.

"Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter," the email said.
The firm then reset the passwords of numerous accounts. The threat was proven false and the company publically apologised for the trouble.

"We unintentionally reset passwords of a large number of accounts, beyond those that we believed to have been compromised," said Twitter in a statement. "We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused."

Twitter explained that their actions were a "routine part of our process to protect our users."
