Open cloud company Rackspace Hosting has upgraded its Private Cloud Software, dubbed Alamo by adding new features and enhanced support applications.

As part of the new release, the company said it has extended its service portfolio for Rackspace Private Cloud.

Rackspace Private Cloud Engineering and Product head Mike Aeschliman said the Private Cloud Software will provide customers with a simple way to deploy a free OpenStack-powered private cloud anywhere in the world.

"With the new release, we can now offer Fanatical Support to customers’ cloud software using our remote access tools," Aeschliman said.

The new release features a new service level support, Core Software Support that offers constant remote access support of Rackspace Private Cloud Software stack.

With Core Software Support, Rackspace engineers can now remotely log in to customers’ Private Cloud environments to provide services such as installation, configuration, patching and troubleshooting.

Rackspace Private Cloud Software include scalable Block Storage that turns external storage into an additional storage volume for a private cloud environment, based on OpenStack Cinder.

It also includes Object Storage, which is powered by OpenStack Swift, that allows customers to create scalable storage resource pools that can be used by a Rackspace Private Cloud environment for storing files as well as server images taking advantage of commodity hardware to reduce costs.

The Graphite and Collectd applications are included to extend the monitoring and alerting capabilities available to private cloud environments.

Rackspace’s new Private Cloud Software incorporates the latest release of the OpenStack Cloud Software platform, Folsom, that powers the Rackspace Cloud supporting several customers.
