Capgemini hopes to boost Oracle’s converged infrastructure performance when it comes to big data and applications with three offerings.

The IT outsourcing giant’s add-on features are aimed at lowering costs and increasing performance of Oracle Engineered Systems, which combine storage, network and servers into one offering.

The three features are Platform Rationalisation with Management-as-a-Service and Outsourcing, Applications Modernisation by Industry, and Database Consolidation with Big Data and Analytics.

Capgemini is latching on to what Gartner sees as the growing market of converged infrastructure, which the analyst house believes will exceed $6bn this year based on 2013 revenue rates as more firms go for integrated systems to improve IT performance.

Capgemini has already worked with logistics firm Azkar to consolidate the company’s systems and applications on Oracle’s Exadata platform.

Francisco Castillo, head of IT and customer experience at Azkar, said: "We have moved all together, Azkar, Capgemini and Oracle, into a solution that has reduced both our operating costs and software licenses needed, with only one vendor now supporting end to end and high performance for batch and online processes."

Capgemini has also moved its own global business intelligence financial system onto Exadata, and it is now accessible to 99 operating units in 31 countries.

The outsourcer’s finance report turnaround time has improved fourfold as a result, the company said, and report volumes have increased 100%.

Subir Dutt, SVP and global oracle practice leader at Capgemini, said: "In collaboration with Oracle, we are providing world-class service offerings for our customers with a host of benefits such as reducing the complexity and cost of IT infrastructure while optimising productivity and performance."
