Apple is reportedly in talks with European banks and credit card organisations to offer mobile payment technology to consumers, though its time frame yet to be determined.

The latest mobile payment service, Apple Pay will be offered with the upcoming iPhone 6 and 6 Plus versions, which are soon set for launch in the US.

Using near-field communication (NFC) technology, users will be able make payments for their purchases just by holding their device over a compatible reader, further doing away with the credit or debit cards.

Visa Europe chief digital officer Steve Perry said: "We are working closely with Apple and with our member banks to bring this new service to market in Europe."

The new technology makes use of the TouchID fingerprint reader integrated into Apple’s latest iPhone to verify a user’s identity, as they need to hold their finger over the sensor to complete the payment.

Further, the new service will also be offered with the Apple Watch, due to launch next year, even though Apple did not detail the working of the system.

Prior to Apple, Vodafone is rolling out a new mobile wallet service in the UK in October, together with Visa and Nectar.
