Storage solution provider Seagate Technology has started shipping world’s first 8TB hard disk drive designed for enterprise customers.
The new hard drive has high capacity which will provide scale-out data infrastructures, energy efficiency, and it will allow corporate data centers to create vast storage arrays for cloud content, object-based storage and data backups.
The hard drives bulk data storage solution will provide customers highest capacity density needed to store the increasing amount of unstructured data.
The 8TB hard disk is designed to increase the system capacity, improve system efficiency and lower the power cost.
Seagate vice president of marketing Scott Horn said: "Public and private data centres are grappling with efficiently storing massive amounts of unstructured digital content."
"Seagate’s new 8TB HDD provides IT managers with a new option for improving storage density in the data centre, thus helping them to tackle one of the largest and fastest growing data categories within enterprise storage economically."
Few months ago the company released its first 6TB enterprise-class hard disk drive which was reportedly 28% faster than its previous 4TB drive.
The company did not reveal details about the technology used for the new hard drive, but previously it was able to boost the storage capacity by using a new technology called shingled magnetic recording.
