Facebook has added the first set of updates to its messaging app Slingshot for iOS and Android, with additional features that let users respond to reactions, and invite other users via SMS.

The reaction-to-reaction option creates a chain that enables users to continue a single conversation thread.

This feature was not present in the app before, and by adding it users will stick to a single thread which the social network hopes would result in more time spent on the app.

Facebook has added a My People tab, which allows existing users to invite their contacts via text to download the app too, as well as inviting friends via Facebook.

Users can also customise photographs by drawing and adding text to the photograph, like rival Snapchat.

Despite the updates some reports claim that the app is not yet ready to compete with Snapchat because it provides a better user interface and additional features that Slingshot does not offer.
