Google is planning to add New York’s famous Liberty and neighboring Ellis Island to its Google Maps service, giving a closer look at the destinations to millions of viewers online.
Google representative Alberto Elias and technologist Daniel Sieberg used the company’s wearable apparatus consisting of 15 cameras, GPS devices and a laser system, to capture the two islands by foot.
Both the islands are managed by the US National Park Service and the tech giant has been trying to get permission to add the places to its map for quite some time now.
The team has captured the place in their lens and soon everyone around the globe will be able to tour the island through Google’s street view.
Sieberg told New York Times: "For the first time, Liberty Island will be available for people to explore through Street View in Google Maps."
"So whether you’re a tourist or a New Yorker or someone who just wants to see it up close, in the coming months everyone will be able to take a tour of the island and appreciate the statue’s history and beauty in 360-degree imagery."
