Taiwanese company MediaTek has unveiled its 64-bit octa-core chip, T6795 with 4G LTE support for high-end Android smartphones.

The ‘True Octa-core LTE smartphone System on Chip (SoC) also claimed to have a clocking speed 2.2GHz can support 2K (2560×1600) display in mobile phones.

T6795 chip features company’s CorePilot technology, which will offer multi-processor performance and thermal control, while the dual-channel LPDDR3 clocked at 933MHz is said to offer better memory bandwidth in a smartphone.

The chip also features multimedia subsystems designed to meet demanding multimedia applications, including support for 120Hz displays and the capability to create and playback 480 frames per second (fps) 1080p Full HD slow motion videos.

Expected to commercially available by end of this year, T6795 chip will come integrated with low-power hardware support for H.265 Ultra HD (4K2K) video record & playback, Ultra HD video playback support for H.264 & VP9, designed to play graphics-intensive games and apps in the smartphones.

MediaTek Smartphone Business Unit GM, Jeffrey Ju, said: "MediaTek has once again demonstrated leading engineering capabilities by delivering breakthrough technology and time-to-market advantage that enable limitless opportunities for our partners and end users, while setting the bar even higher for our competition.

"With a complete and inclusive 64-bit LTE SoC product portfolio, we are firmly on track to lead the industry in delivering premium mobile user experiences for years to come."

In addition, MediaTek has also unveiled a technology that can enable 120Hz display on mobile devices leveraging its System on Chip’s (SoC) and Japan Display’s panel technology.

MediaTek’s MT6595 and MT6795 chips claimed to offer smooth scrolling and a clearer view compared to the 60Hz display, providing enhanced multimedia experience – from camera recording, video playback and gaming.

It has also unveiled Super-Slow Motion Technology, which can display 480 frames per second (fps) 1080p Full HD videos and playback at 1/16 speed.

The technology will begin to roll out with Sony IMX220, 20.7MP sensor, which will offer premium feature in mobiles.
