A new Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) solution for colocation customers in the UK has been launched by VIRTUS.

The solution, dubbed VIRTUS Intelligent Portal (VIP) is a web based manager that provides users with transparency and control of their collocated data centre usage. Visualisation and management of space, power, cooling and energy efficiency is supported by VIP.

The portal has been developed with TDB Fusion, an IT automation and integration firm, which , means the VIP can be integrated with Salesforce, Sage Accounting, Trend Building management and Scheinder power monitoring.

Matthew Larbey, Product Strategy Director, VIRTUS Data Centres, said: "This is the first colo DCIM offering of its kind in the UK.

Every data centre can collect data, but it’s what you do with it that makes it valuable. As a result, business executives are challenging their IT staff to convert data centres from cost centres into producers of business value. Having an effective DCIM solution in place combined with flexible colocation terms is one of the best ways to achieve this."

Customers’ data centre information is presented in 3D visualisations of their deployment, and the web pages are customisable so only relevant information can be displayed.

Colin Aurelius, CEO, TDB Fusion said: "The VIRTUS Intelligent Portal is the first solution of its kind to provide colocation customers with the ability to transform data into powerful management information that’s visible, meaningful, and actionable. The VIP’s open architecture means customers can leverage the management information directly, or integrate it with their existing applications, making it an ideal offering for colocation customers with multiple data centre assets, and enabling a service orientated data centre strategy for the business."
