Salesforce and Philips have announced a partnership to deliver customer relationship management over cloud to the healthcare industry.

The platform will place an emphasis on the collection and analysis of data to improve the treatment of patients, a speciality of Philips.

Frans van Houten, chief executive of Philips, said: "Healthcare data exists in many different forms and in many different systems today.

"Together with salesforce.com, we have a tremendous opportunity to reshape and optimize the way healthcare is delivered and provide better access to data across the continuum of care."

Two applications are set to be launched later this summer under the partnership, namely Philips eCareCoordinator and eCareCompanion, part of the telehealth trend in which medical staff monitor patients remotely.

"We have entered a new transformative era for healthcare, and technology is enabling the industry to connect to, care for and engage with patients and each other in a profound new way," said Marc Benioff, chief executive of Salesforce.
