SuperMicro’s piece of kit comes at £267 for the most basic, no-frills version. The X10SAE motherboard also has 16 USB ports (six 3.0 and 10 2.0 ports), as well as SATA and Firewire ports.

You can also adjust memory for each virtual machine you import to it (up to 16 of them), meaning you can run a variety of different programmes each making different demands of the server, making it perfect for a firm carrying out a pretty eclectic range of jobs.
