Amazon is planning to offer its Kindle e-readers with refunds on earlier e-book purchases under a federal legal resolution with publishers.
According to the firm, customers who have purchased e-books between April 2010 and May 2012 are entitled to receive between 30 cents to $1.32 for certain e-books.
Amazon told customers in emails: "We think these settlements are a big win for customers and look forward to lowering prices on more Kindle books in the future."
The books must have been published by three publishers including HarperCollins Publishers, Simon & Schuster and Hachette Book Group that have agreed to resolve a lawsuit which had claimed them of escalating prices of e-books.
The settlements follows claiming of US Justice Department in April that Apple and five publishers have unlawfully schemed on pricesunder an effort to battle Amazon’s domination of e-books.
According to reports, the settlements still require further court approvals in February 2013.
After receiving of approval for settlements, the publishers will have to pay for e-book refunds that will be automatically applied to the Amazon’s accounts of entitled customers.
Amazon said that the refunds can be use to buy Kindle books or print books or can procure the refund amount by requesting a check.
