AOL has launched its premium video syndication platform dubbed ‘AOL On’ Network for the UK audience, in a bid to take on similar services offered by Google’s YouTube.

Content for the new curated video library is offered by Channel 4 News, ITN, Little Dot Studios in addition to other UK content providers.

AOL On UK comprises over 750,000 videos across 18 diverse channels, such as news, entertainment, style, health, cars, food, travel, parenting and technology, as well offering snippets from popular shows such as Supernanny and Embarrassing Bodies.

Further, the content will be circulated via a network of publishers including Trinity Mirror, Telegraph Media Group, TalkTalk, Local World, Videojug and TVGuide.co.uk, in addition to its AOL’s proprietary The Huffington Post UK, AOL, Parentdish, MyDaily and TechCrunch.

AOL international head Graham Moysey said the new platform is entering market when there is an increasing appetite and demand for online video from advertisers and consumers.

"AOL On is already the web’s largest premium curated video library and today we’re launching with some of the UK’s leading content producers and publishers and looking forward to getting many more on board in the coming months," Moysey said.

However, users are prohibited to upload their own videos like in YouTube.

The AOL On UK app for iOS and Android devices are set to be launched in early April.
