Foxconn has denied that the production of Apple’s new iPhone 5, at its Zhengzhou facility in China’s central Henan province, being affected by a strike by thousands of its workers, which is reported to be the second work strike at the plant in the past two weeks.
According to reports issued by China Labor Watch, about 3,000 to 4,000 workers were on strike at the facility, annoyed by increased work pressures in addition to their working even through the week-long National Day holiday.
Foxconn said in statement that any reports that there has been an employee strike are inaccurate.
"There has been no workplace stoppage in that facility or any other Foxconn facility and production has continued on schedule," the company stated.
The dispute reportedly occurred after workers were frustrated in attempting to avoid scratches on the casings of Apple’s new iPhone 5.
Xinhua quoted an unnamed government spokesman in Zhengzhou as saying that some 100 quality inspectors at Foxconn refused to work for an hour on Friday after one was allegedly beaten by workers irate over the inspection demands.
"The instruction to strengthen quality inspections for the iPhone 5 was given by Apple Inc. following multiple complaints from customers regarding aesthetic flaws in the phone," the spokesman said.
