It has been reported that Google’s rumoured next tablet, the Nexus 8, will in fact have a screen size of 8.9 inches. This is according to IHS Technology, a research firm that spoke to CNET about the matter.
Rhoda Alexander, a director of tablet research at IHS Technology, said in an email to CNET that the Nexus 8.9 is presumed to be "high-performance," and that "volume production is expected to start in July or August."
It is likely HTC will be the manufacturer.
"The expectation is [that] this will be a lower volume product, carrying a premium price tag to support the specifications."
Pricing is still not clear, although as the Nexus 8.9 would be a more premium tablet, Alexander said she "would not be surprised if it is higher than $299."
Alexander does not know the pricing but said HTC may be the manufacturer, according to Alexander.
Sales of the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 have gone well for Amazon, which proves there is an appetite in the market for an 8.9-inch device.
On the topic of a third generation Nexus 7, Alexander told CNET: "We still expect to see a 3rd generation of the Nexus 7 product at some point in 2014 but do not have any confirmation of actual contracts for such a product at present."
