According to YouTube, every month 800 milllion people watch 4 billion hours of content the site.
The popularity of YouTube is increasing rapidly with number of people subscribing doubling year-on-year.
The site is also reaching the 100,000 subscriber marker 5 times faster than it was two years ago.
The company is now taking its success global by launching a new wave of original channels coming from the UK, France, Germany and the US.
"Given the success of these and the tens of millions of other amazing channels already out there, we still know there’s more great content to find, follow and fall in love with on YouTube," said Roberty Kyncl, VP, Global Head of Content at YouTube. "From local cuisine, health and wellness and parenting to sports, music, comedy, animation and news, this new lineup of original channels will have something for everyone. "
The new global channels will be supported by well known celebrities, producers and media companies from Europe and the U.S.
As YouTube prepares to launch new global channels, the site is being blocked in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The blockage comes after the video-sharing site refused to remove the trailer of an anti-Islamic movie called "Innocence of Muslims" which has sparked outrage in Muslim countries.
Saudi Arabia has also said that they will block the site unless the video is removed.
The trailer of the movie, which reported to have shown Prophet Muhammad in poor light, has led to protests at US embassies and consulates in various countries that include Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
