Facebook’s photo sharing service Instagram has signed its first major advertising deal valued at about $100m with Omnicom Group.
The latest deal would see users viewing ads in their streams from brands that work with Omnicom’s media and creative agencies, such as Omnicom Media Group, in addition to BBDO, DDB and TBWA/Chiat/Day.
Facebook market operations director Jim Squires told AFP that Omnicom shares the company’s passion for and understanding of the mobile Instagram community.
"Our teams are going to work hand in hand to develop and execute campaigns that provide people with amazing imagery and drive meaningful business results for advertisers," Squires added.
Even after the deal, the photo sharing service will display a limited high-quality images or videos from select brand names that already have presence on the site.
Instagram started offering ads upon being acquired by Facebook for $715m in September 2012 and its advertisers included Adidas, Lexus, PayPal, Burberry and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
Recently, Facebook and its photo sharing arm have rolled out new policies to curb the illegal sale of guns on both the sites.
