CIOs are set to see more collaboration between cloud companies as the firms realise the market is too big to cover individually.

This is according to cloud services provider Adapt off the back of a survey of British businesses suggesting that half of them do not believe a single cloud company can meet all their needs.

Adapt’s head of service development, Kevin Linsell, told CBR that APIs enabling integration between developers and cloud services will standardise as cloud companies seek to partner with other providers to offer end-to-end cloud solutions.

Linsell said: "We will see a lot more collaboration between cloud providers [to meet business needs]. Over time, APIs and interfaces will be forced to get a lot more standardised. That will just have to happen.

"At the moment everyone is different, they’re on different APIs and interfaces. Today it very much has be done bespoke for each provider [like Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure]."

He echoed the sentiments of Dragons’ Den star Piers Linney, co-CEO of cloud service provider Outsourcery, who used his keynote speech at Cloud Expo this week to make a similar prediction.

He said: "The cloud is too big for anybody [to do everything]. You need partners, you need to collaborate. You have to do that to offer end user support."

Adapt’s study of 102 UK companies suggested that cloud integrators, which manage multi-provider services, could make it easier for CIOs to migrate services to the cloud.

In January, CBR ran a story about new jobs that could be created by the explosion of the cloud service ecosystem, with one such role being that of the ‘cloud broker’, a person who commissions and manages cloud services on behalf of a business.
