More than 25% of Brits are anticipated to use Twitter by 2018, reaching 17.1 million users, a jump from one third of social network users in 2012, a new report revealed.
eMarketer’s latest report suggested that over one fifth of the UK’s total population, together with over a quarter of internet users are anticipated to use the micro-blogging service by the end of this year.
Last year, about 18% of Brits used Twitter, bringing the number of users to 12 million as 40.6% of them accessed Twitter account at least once in a month, while the figure is set to reach 13.6 users million by the end this year.
Of the overall British population, 25-34 year olds are expected to account for over a quarter of Twitter users, with the 18-24 year olds taking a 24.5% share, while usage among those above 65 and older will rise by 37.8% this year.
The report added: "The continuing growth of the Twitter audience follows typical patterns for post-early-adoption social networking sites.
"After Facebook attracted a core of teen and young adult users, those users’ parents and grandparents started signing up, and the social networking giant saw its main growth coming from the oldest and youngest users."
