Fujitsu has signed a £16.6m contract to upgrade Essex County Council’s corporate IT systems to ensure that they deliver better services and application performance.

Under the seven year deal, the company will deploy a fully integrated and upgraded ERP environment to provide better functionality to maintain legacy applications.

The project is expected to support the council’s plan to reduce costs by about £235m during the next three years as well as improve operational efficiency and expand services it can offer to other public bodies.

As part of the contract, Fujitsu will implement a fully managed service including Oracle E-Business Suite, Hyperion, OBIEE and Taleo, while synchronising the services with current applications.

Essex County Council corporate services and transformation cabinet member Cllr Derrick Louis said the new systems, which we aim to have up and running within the next financial year, will remove unnecessary administration, duplication and repetition.

"Not only will there be significant savings over the coming years, this investment shows our commitment to making lasting changes to the way we deliver top quality services for the benefit of our residents and businesses," Louis added.

Fujitsu UK & Ireland Business & Application Services Sandy Vann said the company supports the strategy to help Essex businesses grow and create jobs for local people by providing the infrastructure and environment they need to attract investment and unlock sustainable growth opportunities.

"By providing easy to use, Oracle-based self-service facilities, Essex County Council employees will experience an enhanced ability to excel in their work while saving money that can be invested in other areas," Vann added.

"By delivering innovative solutions such as these, Fujitsu supports and helps create vibrant communities that ensure residents can access jobs and public services in an efficient and sustainable way."
