Vodafone will launch its 4G roaming services in more countries making it avaiable in 18 countries at the cost of existing 3G roaming services.

The company already offers 4G roaming on its own networks in Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain which will be expanded to Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK by summer 2014.

Vodafone will also offer similar services through the use 4G networks of other telecommunications companies in Austria, Belgium, France, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Switzerland.

Vodafone Group chief commercial and operations officer Paolo Bertoluzzo said 4G is great for travellers, whether they are on business or on holiday.

"Much faster, simpler to use and often less expensive than typical, hotel wi-fi connections anywhere in Europe, 4G roaming will give our customers high-speed connections for video, music streaming, web surfing, working and much more anywhere, from the airport to the cafe,"Bertoluzzo said.

The company has implemented a Spring £7bn investment programme to fast-track its 4G roaming plans to ensure that the key holiday destinations are covered ahead of summer holiday.

Vodafone Australia chief technology officer Benoit Hanssen said that the latest move forms part of Vodafone’s ambitious network strategy, which is fuelled by offering an enhanced customer experience.

"We have spent billions building a new 3G and 4G network and this latest news shows we have no intention of slowing down," Hanssen added.

"To extend access so customers can continue to enjoy super-fast speeds internationally is a natural next step, and the Red plans offer the best value in the industry for data allowances both here and overseas.

"Travellers, whether on holiday or business, will be able to take their plan overseas for only $5 a day and enjoy the benefits of super-fast 4G."
