The US Cyber Command’s director of intelligence Rear Admiral Samuel Cox has alleged that China is constantly trying to break into Pentagon’s computer network.
Cox was quoted by Reuters as saying that in view of the constant attempt to penetrate into Pentagon computer network, US is planning to boost the cyber command in unit in the US military hierarchy.
"Their level of effort against the Department of Defense is constant," Cox said.
Cox also added that there is an increase in Chinese attempts to steal corporate trade secrets as well as accused China of trying to "exfiltrate" Pentagon secrets.
Created two years ago as a unit of the US Strategic Command, the Cyber Command is in charge for defending Defense Department networks along with increasing any US offensive operations in cyberspace.
Further, there is also a proposal to strengthen the cyberwarfare unit to the a complete unified combatant command elevating it at par with its parent Strategic Command and the Defense Department’s eight other high-level military divisions.
The reports also say that unnamed foreign countries, hackers and criminal teams had contributed to a 17 times rise in cyber attacks on the US infrastructure between 2009 to 2011.
