South Korea’s SK Telecom has unveiled the world’s first LTE-Advanced 3 Band Carrier Aggregation (CA) technology, which is claimed to offer four times the speed of the current mobile broadband.
The company is planning to launch the new technology, which is expected to offer the fastest LTE-Advanced speeds, following the development of chipset and devices to support it.
The technology is said to integrate three bands including the 20MHz, 10MHz, and 10MHz, and is capable of supporting speeds of about 300Mbps, while the current mobile broadband offers speed of 75Mbps.
SK Telecom Network Technology R&D Center senior vice president and head Park Jin-hyo said with the successful development of LTE-Advanced 3 Band CA, the company further strengthens its global leadership in telecommunications technologies.
"SK Telecom will continue to make strenuous efforts to provide unmatched service quality and speeds, which will lead to the overall advancement of the global telecommunications industry," Jin-hyo added.
According to the industry experts, the new LTE-Advanced 3 band CA is expected to be commercially available form the end of 2014.
Additionally, SK Telecom is planning to display the LTE-Advanced 3 band CA at MWC 2014 in Barcelona and also showcase the 450Mbps LTE-Advanced that combines three component carriers including 20MHz, 20MHz and 20MHz.
