Twitter vice president of product Michael Sippey is leaving the micro-blogging firm after serving it for two years.

Sippey will step down to an advisory role at the US firm prior to his exit.

Sippey said in his blog that over the past few weeks he has talked with CEO Dick Costolo and COO Ali Rowghani about what he wants next in his career, and what Twitter needs at this stage of its life.

"And I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on," he said.

"Starting today I’m transitioning to an advisory role.

"I’ll be helping with product strategy, providing input on the great work the team has lined up for 2014, and helping Ali find a new head of product.

"After that, I’m excited to go figure out what’s next. I hear this Internet thing has legs."

There have been reports that Twitter has allegedly experienced a bit of internal thrashing between its revenue-generating unit and product-development unit.

Playing a vital role at Twitter’s consumer product and design initiatives, Sippey was also involved in acquisitions such as Tweetdeck and Vine that allow users to record and share short span videos.
