Dutch navigation firm TomTom has distanced itself from glitches on Apple’s new mapping service on the iPhone 5 and has offered to assist the iPhone maker in fixing the errors.

Following the launch of iPhone 5 users have complained about geographical errors and missing data on the maps feature.

TomTom media manager Cem Cohen said there is a difference between a map and an app; the firm develops the app and license the map data, which is like a foundation.

"The customer can build on top of that, but we license the same mapping data to all our customers," Cohen said. "We don’t know what is causing the issues but from our perspective the quality of our data is great and we stand behind it."

According to the navigation firm, its own mapping application, available on the Apple’s iTunes App Store, gets high consumer ratings.
Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, its first map service.

In June 2012, TomTom signed an agreement to deliver mapping data for Apple’s new iOS mobile operating system following the iPhone maker’s ditching of Google’s maps service, in a bid to reduce its dependence on Google.
