Enterprises will soon have another option for their cloud object storage with British Telecom.

Using an object storage technology from Caringo called Swarm, BT is planning to offer services to extend file storage, provide data protection and sharing across a remote-office storage infrastructure.

The move comes as part of the company’s "cloud of clouds" move and will offer dedicated nodes in the UK and Germany. Further expansion to all 18 countries where its IaaS platform is hosted is planned.

Features of the service will include end-to-end encryption, privately-held encryption keys for Amazon S3 compatible object storage access APIs and data storage in BT facilities, as well as other features.

BT uses Swarm as the object-based storage component of its Compute Storage offering.
