AWS is looking to capture unhappy database users with its Database Migration Service.
The cloud company is providing a number of tool and services that are designed to simplify migrating enterprise production databases to AWS.
It includes tools to aid migration from Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL to AWS. It does this by offering a Schema Conversion tool.
The service was announced during the keynote at AWS re:Invent, during which Andy Jassy, SVP, AWS made several references to the likes of Oracle and unhappy customers.
A fully managed Database Migration Service will offer users the ability to migrate a 1TB database from on-premises to AWS for $3.
The company says that it will handle all the tasks involved in moving data and completing the migration.
The Schema Conversion Tool works by porting database schemas and stored procedures from one database platform to another.
Staying with the database releases, Amazon RDS will now support MariaDB. This will offer customers up to 6TB of storage and 30,000 IOPS.
This becomes the sixth database engine that RDS supports and will allow customers to run relational databases without the need for on-premises systems.
