Google plus

"This week we also hit an important milestone–over 400,000,000 people have upgraded to Google+," said Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior vice president of engineering.

Gundotra also added that Google+ has also crossed the 100,000,000 monthly active users mark.

"It was only a year ago that we opened public sign-up, and we couldn’t have imagined that so many people would join in just 12 months," said Gundotra.

Although the Google+ does not have as many users as Facebook’s 900+ million, Google+ reached 100,000,000 in one year which took Facebook several years to accomplish.

Google has also announced its acquisition of photo editing app, Snapseed. The mobile application’s similarities to Facebook-owned Instagram, could make the companies rivals in the photo sharing app market.

The Snapseed app allows users to share and edit photos as well as add filters like the Instagram app.

The mobile application is popular among photography enthusiast with 9 million users as of June this year. Unlike Instagram, however, it has a $4.99 price tag.

The IOS photo sharing app, owned by Nik Software, was launched in the summer of 2011 and won the title of app of the year by Apple.

"We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone," said Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior vice president of engineering.
