US based iPhone maker Apple has targeted Polish grocery chain A.pl on infringing its logo and brand icons in a direct move to lure customers.
Apple has filed a lawsuit at the Polish patent office against the online website and demanded invalidation of the trademark possessed by A.PL Internet.
Earlier, Apple had opposed to its registration in the initial position.
Patent office spokesman Adam Taukert was quoted by Reuters as saying: "Apple brand is widely recognized and the company says that A.pl, by using the name that sounds similar, is using Apple’s reputation."
The Polish grocery website claims that Apple’s accusation is ludicrous.
Appeals under the lawsuit are expected to be made to the Wojewódzki Sad Administracyjny (Regional Administrative Court) in Warsaw, Poland.
The new patent fight follows Apple’s $1.05bn victory over South Korea based Samsung Electronics.
