Sophos has introduced the hosted version of its mobile device management (MDM) application, Sophos Mobile Control as a Service.

The new application is based on Sophos Mobile Control 2.5 and allows businesses to deploy an MDM application without any changes to their existing IT infrastructures.

With Sophos Mobile Control as a Service, companies can complete various tasks including creating policies to uploading lists of users and developing Acceptable Use Policies for employee-owned devices through the web-based admin console.

The structure of the Sophos Mobile Control web console, self-service portal and the mobile client will provide customer with the benefits of having no hardware on the customer site.

The service claimed to require only a browser on the customer premises saving both capital and operating expenditures as it reqires no maintenance.

Sophos Product Management vice president Matthias Pankert said security applications are moving toward the cloud to provide flexibility and scalability.

"With limited resources and a multitude of security solutions to manage, mobile devices in particular are often left uncontrolled," Pankert said.

"Our SaaS-based solution ensures that these devices are controlled and managed, even for small groups of users within a company."

Sophos Mobile Control is available for on-premise installation or as Software as a Service under a subscription license.

The on-premise version is also included in the Sophos Complete Security Suite and it offers protection to endpoint, data, email, web, server and mobile in one license.
