This week, Digital Realty appointed Chris Sharp as its CTO to lead the company’s expansion and technology innovation.

Prior to joining Digital Realty, Sharp was Equinix’s VP for Cloud Innovation since August 2013. At the rival provider, he was responsible for the development of cloud services solutions and the development of new capabilities facilitating broad commercial adoption of cloud computing on a global basis.

Digital Realty’s revamped board also includes Philip Lin who has joined the firm as Senior Strategy VP, responsible for overseeing Digital Realty’s global market strategic roadmap.

The colo firm said that Lin joins the company after serving as Executive VP of Strategy and Development at Chinese carrier-neutral internet data centre services provider, 21 Vianet.

A. William Stein, CEO at Digital Realty, said: "[Sharp’s] guidance will be instrumental as we leverage Telx’s cloud and networking ecosystem capabilities across the robust cloud compute-engine presence within our global data centre campus footprint.

"Digital Realty remains laser-focused on improving the ROI capital across our global portfolio, and Philip will help to ensure we remain on target by driving a multi-year strategic plan."

Sharp added: "It is an important and exciting time in the company’s history, with customers increasingly demanding comprehensive and flexible data centre solutions, and I look forward to playing a key role as we work to meet and exceed these demands."

In July, Digital Realty confirmed the acquisition of colo Telx in a $1.86 billion bid to expand its footprint. A month earlier, Equinix announced it would be buying TelecityGroup’s for $3.5 billion.
