Unified communications firm Polycom and IBM Research have partnered to jointly develop new technologies which will accelerate cloud-based video collaboration applications for social uses and other key vertical.

The collaboration will leverage Polycom RealPresence video application as well as cloud and virtualisation technologies of IBM Research.

In addition, the two companies will also ensure Polycom RealPresence video applications perform optimally in the rigorous cloud environments and offer enhanced security, performance, and reliability as per the requirement.

To serve the organisations requiring face-to-face video meetings regardless of network, platforms, devices, or protocols, the two companies are planning to develop interoperability between standard and non-standard video environments, including social video applications.

Polycom and IBM Research plan to create applications that focus on cloud-delivered Communications Enabling Business Processes (CEBP).

IBM Research Business Development vice president Ken King said: "Together with Polycom, we can help customers prepare for the future of this industry, whether they choose premises-based video solutions or private, public, or hybrid cloud delivery models."

The co-developed applications will be available with future Polycom RealPresence video collaboration applications, including for enterprises interested in private or hybrid clouds or through service providers who will deliver VaaS applications through public clouds to businesses of all sizes.
