The sales of media tablets in the Western Europe rose 142% during the initial six months of (H1) 2012, while the sales of IT products in Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, declined 1.3% during the same period, according to a report by GfK.
The report also revealed that, in Western Europe businesses accounted for over 13% of overall media tablet sales during the period.
During first half of this year users have mainly focussed on mobile devices and unrestricted internet access, which led to 36.7% increase in sales of Ultra Mobile / Ultra Thin Notebooks and 93.3% rise in e-readers.
The rise in iPad and similar appliance’s demand is also motivating sales in other segments, which earlier had been declining.
GfK said that it is anticipating a single-digit loss in IT-market sales in the second half of 2012, as the launch of Windows 8 in the fourth quarter of 2012 is expected to allow growth opportunities.
Currently the consumers are not only using a stationary desktop PC or all-in-one computer at home, but also possess a notebook, or netbook as a mobile device for all of their works.
GfK also revealed that the rise in variety of digital consumer products is reflected by the rising degree of networking.
