The Hacking Team has been hacked, with around 400 gigabytes of data uploaded to BitTorrent.
The company, which sells the Da Vinci surveillance software to law enforcement agencies, appears to have had a huge amount of data stolen, including emails and source code, according to the vast amount of directories posted.
The company has also had its Twitter account hijacked which is tweeting alleged screen shots of internal emails which were stolen. These appear to reveal details of conversations between CEO David Vincenzetti and oppressive governments.
The bio on the Twitter page reads: "Developing ineffective, easy-to-pwn offensive technology to compromise the operations of the worldwide law enforcement and intelligence communities."
Named as an ‘Enemy of the Internet‘ by the activist outfit, Reporters Without Border, Hacking Team is said to have deals with Saudi Arabia, Oman and Lebanon.
Although this has not yet been verified by the company, it is certainly a massive problem if true. A breach of this scale could potentially lead to a huge loss of business.
