Thousands of homes in the Westcountry will be brought online following Airband’s successful bid for a £4.6 million contract with the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project.
The provider was tasked with deploying superfast wireless broadband across the Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks.
The venture will connect 5,800 households and businesses through a fixed wireless access network of masts with broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps, according to Airband.
The project is backed by the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), who funds CDS, and it is part of a £750 million initiative to bring broadband connectivity to the region.
The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSW LEP) also supports the CDS venture through the Growth Deal and Growing Places Fund.
Redmond Peel, MD of Airband, commented: "Our extensive knowledge of deploying services in the Welsh hills has given us experience and insight into dealing with the geographical challenges that we will come across in the National Parks and our use of a high proportion of existing structures and buildings to build a robust network will reduce planning issues and time lags for delivery."
CDS said it aims to deliver superfast broadband to around 90% of homes and businesses across Devon and Somerset by the end of 2016.
