Atos will be signing up tourists in Paris to experiment multilingual augmented reality during theatre plays.
The company partnered with Theatre in Paris and will translate stage dialogues in real time using connected glasses.
The roll out will begin at the Avignon Festival on July 4 with ‘surtitles’ translating performances’ lyrics and dialogues and displaying them on the wearable.
The initial edition will include English and Chinese for "King Lear" by Shakespeare and English and French for "Return to Berratham" by Laurent Mauvignier.
The solution is being introduced as part of the The Bridge Living Lab, the European accelerator for Crossover Culture & Technology, under the French Tech label.
Atos said it will deploy the wearables at the same festival in 2016, with improvements to the glasses for the hard of hearing.
The company confirmed it will also design new content with superimposed 3D animation, the appearance of rain, augmented sceneries and others.
Carl de Poncins, President of Theatre in Paris, said: "The augmented-reality solution we unveiled, with Atos, at the Avignon Festival should allow us to supplement our existing offer and give spectators a revolutionary new experience."
Steve Peguet, Innovation Director at Atos France: "Responding to the needs for the smooth operation of large-scale performances, providing spectators with new experiences and ensuring a secure environment for real-time devices have been part of Atos’ pallet of skills since the beginning of its partnership with the International Olympic Committee."
