Sony has ventured into crowd funding with the launch of its First Flight crowd funding platform.

The platform will initially showcase products designed by Sony employees and is an extension of its existing Sony’s Seed Acceleration Programme.

The fundraising campaign started off with a campaign for a remote control dubbed ‘Huis short’ for "Home User Interfaces" which is based on e-ink paper.

The remote is capable of controlling electronic goods that have separate remotes with Huis. It features a digital screen and users can create custom display buttons and layouts.

With a project target of ¥5m ($41,000) in 50 days, Sony has already reached 26% of its goal.

Just like other crowd funding platforms, Sony‘s own service will also follow similar rules, where the project will only materialise if it hits the target on time.

Apart from Huis, the programme also seeks funding for two other projects which includes a sensor kit and a smartwach.

Presently, the website and the products will cater to a Japanese audience, and the company is expected to expand the scope of the website to other projects and foreign countries.
