John Legere has taken to Twitter to rubbish rumours of a merger between T-Mobile US and Dish Network.
Legere, the T-Mobile US CEO, initially responded on Twitter by tweeting a link to a news article on the rumour with an emoticon smiley face.
He then stepped up his responses, denouncing the story as a rumour that "deserves no comment." In a final tweet, he criticised the "level of writing" around the story.
The two companies had been reported to be in merger talks, although still in the formative stages.
While the parties were said to be in ‘close agreement’ about the shape of the new company, according to the report in the Wall Street Journal, questions such as cash and stock involved in the purchase have still not been decided. Sources suggested that a deal will not necessarily be agreed upon.
Under the terms of the deal, it was claimed, Charlie Ergen, Dish Network CEO, would be chairman of the new company. Meanwhile, Legere would become CEO.
Dish is currently the second largest satellite TV operator in the US with a market capitalisation of $33.18 billion. T-Mobile US is marginally smaller at $31.31 billion and the fourth-largest wireless carrier.
