Volvo is upgrading its car-based telematics system, Volvo On Call, giving drivers the ability to control selected functionality through their Apple Watch and Android Wear.
With the upgraded version of the Volvo On Call smart app, drivers will be able to control settings, lock/unlock, and locate their car using the app on their smartwatch.
The Swedish carmaker has redesigned the app and has added full iPad user interface, along with Android Wear and a unified Windows Phone app that can be controlled through Microsoft’s voice assistant Cortana.
Volvo has also added a ‘send-to-car’ feature designed to help drivers with navigation.
Initially, Volvo On Call provided safety, security and tracking services in the car using a car-installed SIM card which was connected to a Volvo On Call operator who used GPS technology to guide emergency services in case on an emergency.

Volvo Cars Connected Products director David Holecek said: "Volvo On Call is an app that allows you to literally take control over everyday elements in your Volvo.
"You can set heater timings for those cold and frosty mornings or cool down your car in hot weather, check your fuel level and mileage, or time to next service.
