Alibaba‘s CEO Daniel Zhang has told employees that the company must expand globally in order to survive.
The new CEO said the enterprise will invest in "new and existing overseas operations".
He added Alibaba will recruit workers from abroad, saying that if the company cannot globalise then it won’t last, "we need to have global talent".
Mr Zhang continued: "We must absolutely globalise and it must be a successful effort — if not Alibaba won’t be able to last."
The company said it will push for cloud solutions, on top of the cloud and big-data analytics services it provides to 1.4 million customers in China and Aliyun.
Mr Zhang said: "This year, I think it’s very important that cloud computing keeps growing its number of customers, the quality, efficiency.
"Cloud computing is taking off, I have confidence that (it) can become as important as e-commerce and finance because big data is our basic, fundamental, important platform."
Recently, Alibaba opened a data centre in Silicon Valley, and unveiled a partnership in Dubai.
