Fujitsu and Intel have formed a collaboration to develop a platform for Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
Under the deal, Fujitsu’s distributed service platform technology will be combined with the Intel IoT Gateway for the development of IoTsolutions.
The companies plan to initially target manufacturing, retail and the public sector. They already have a Proof of Business (PoB) established in Shimane, Japan, which includes real-time visualisation of the manufacturing operations.
Shimane Fujitsu will collect post-shipment sensor information from products using Fujitsu IoT solution Ubiquitousware.
Correlation analyses of the data will then be undertaken with logs from production processes to further reduce costs.
As part of the PoB, locations of products that are to be repaired will be tracked, as well as their progress via the repair process,
It includes wait times, in real time, which helps in reducing the extra steps needed until shipment.
Fujitsu said the data can be correlated with video analyses of operators and equipment in trial production processes, including trial logs, to further enhance the reject rates of finished goods and lower indirect costs.
The scope of visualisation is expected to be expanded in future to cover the total supply chain between different plants.
The companies plan to create more PoB solutions for retail and the public sector during fiscal 2015.
